Meet the Board

Carolyn Randall
Chapter Chair
I have a Ph.D. in forest pathology and worked for the Dept. of Entomology at Michigan State University for 12 years.
I attended Al Gore’s Climate Reality training in Chicago in 2013.
I am also a co-leader of the Lansing Area Chapter of Citizens Climate Lobby.

Bernadette Osborn
Vice-Chair and Presentations Committee Chair
Hi, my name is Bernadette Osborn, and I am a 17-year-old climate activist. I first learned about climate change when, in 2012, Hurricane Sandy hit my home in Maryland. Hitting on Halloween night, it was awful. Our floors were soaked, and all of our trees were lying on their sides. After that night, I knew I had to do something about the climate crisis. In 2020, I decided to become a Climate Reality Leader and attend the July 2020 Global Training. Through it, I met so many amazing people, and I wanted to continue my work. After the training, I went up to Carolyn Randall and asked if she would help me start the chapter and sit as Chair, and she said yes. Now I am the Vice-Chair and Presentations Committee Chair and am eager to see what the chapter can accomplish!
With my position, my goal is to educate everyone in the community about climate change and what they can do to take action. I want to make Lansing Climate Reality a whole community effort to slow climate change.

Allison Schoen
Campaigns Committee Chair
Hi, my name is Allison Schoen! My family has always loved to travel and be outdoors. There are so many places in the world that I want to visit. When I see the effects of climate change in the news, it breaks my heart. It is sad to see homes, habitats, and ecosystems being polluted and destroyed. I want to protect this planet for future generations to enjoy. Our earth is so beautiful and it needs to be treated right!
My goal as the Campaigns Committee Chair, is to encourage others to take action against climate change. I want people to experience the positive feeling of helping our planet. I am excited about our campaigns and I cannot wait to see our community put them into action!

Allison Schoen
Members Committee Chair
Hello! My name is Anna Hicks and I am the membership chair for the Lansing Chapter of Climate Reality!
My family has always put emphasis on appreciating and cherishing nature, but I didn’t fully comprehend how priceless it is until high school. My freshman year I knew of climate change, and I knew it was bad; but I thought it was just one of those things that you had to accept. Thankfully, my science teacher that year decided to do a unit on climate change, and it warped the course of my life. I became devastated when I learned of all the lives and homes that had been-and will be- destroyed. It was then I realized that climate change was a beast that required as much help as possible to stop. Since then, I have taken steps to reduce my personal and my school’s footprint, with this group I hope to help reduce the footprint of my community and country.

Aiko Major
Marketing and Communications Committee Chair
Hi! My name is Aiko Major and I am the Marketing and Communications Committee Chair!
I have always been interested in the environment and I have always loved nature. However, I also spent most of my life knowing that there was a climate crisis but was part of the mindset that believed that someone else would fix it for me, but once I grew up I realized that this is something that we need to actively combat. Each and every one of us.
With this group, I want to help spread awareness about this issue and encourage schools to teach more about climate change in their curriculum.
Our Committees

Presentations Committee
We teach people of all ages about climate change and what they can do to take action by giving presentations, webinars, writing articles, etc. Currently we are focusing on teaching K-8 students about the climate crisis, and giving weekly webinars to educate the chapter members.

Campaigns Committee
The campaigns committee organizes campaigns and comes up with creative ways to execute them. They set goals and track their progress. Their main goal is to encourage the community to take action in the fight against climate change.

Membership Committee
The membership committee works really closely with the communications/marketing committee in ensuring the member satisfaction. We do check-ins with the members in order to maintain contentment and reach out to those joining us.
